What is the “Gourmet Gauge“? Great question! When I review restaurants or cafes on Google Maps, the categories are typically limited to Food, Service, and Atmosphere. However, I wanted something more comprehensive for my website and social media. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been developing my own rating system, and I’m excited to announce that it’s finally ready. Introducing the Gourmet Gauge!

What are the categories?

We’re taking reviews to the next level with five categories instead of the usual three you find on Google. Our categories are: Taste, Presentation, Ambiance, Service, and Value for Money. This comprehensive approach ensures you get a detailed and accurate picture of whether a venue is worth your precious time and hard-earned money. Get ready for the ultimate dining guide with the Gourmet Gauge!

How will the scoring work?

Each category will be rated from 0 to 5, with 0 being the worst and 5 being the best. At the end of each review, I’ll tally up the scores from all categories to give a total out of 25. Based on this total, restaurants will fall into one of the following categories:

• 0-5: Avoid
• 6-10: Needs Improvement
• 11-15: Average
• 16-20: Recommend
• 21-23: Must Try
• 24-25: Golden Trekky

This way, you’ll have a clear and comprehensive picture of whether a venue is worth your time and hard-earned money. Get ready to explore the culinary world with the Gourmet Gauge!

I’ve always dreamed of celebrating and honouring the crème de la crème of eateries we’ve visited. That’s why I created the “Golden Trekky” award, reserved for the very best of the best. To earn this prestigious accolade, an eatery must achieve a perfect or near-perfect score.

But that’s not all! The Golden Trekky winners will have their own dedicated page, replacing the “Our Top Food” page. This exclusive list will spotlight the ultimate dining experiences, guiding you to culinary excellence.

• New Structure: Our reviews will now follow a streamlined format: Introduction, Detailed Review, Pros & Cons, Rating, and Their Info & Details. This ensures you get all the information you need in a clear and engaging way.
• Category Updates: Some category names will be updated for broader coverage. For example, “Somerset Food” will become simply “Somerset,” allowing us to review not just eateries but also attractions in the area.
