Harry & Heels California Donuts, Toronto Review

When planning a trip to Toronto, I always research the best bakeries and dessert spots in advance — especially places known for donuts and speciality sweet treats. Harry & Heels Californian Donuts was on my saved list early on, and during a snowy wander along Dundas Street West, we finally stopped in to see if it lived up to the hype.

Dining at Harry & Heels:

Finding it was slightly confusing at first — we actually walked past it while following Google Maps. That’s because the donut counter is located inside The Fourth Man in the Fire Pizzeria. Once we realised, we doubled back and stepped inside.

The counter was packed with doughy delights: jam-filled options, Boston cream classics and plenty of creative flavours. But when in Canada, there was only one flavour profile we had to try — maple.

Atmosphere & Setting:

Since we both needed a quick warm-up (and a toilet break from the snow!), we decided to sit in rather than take our donuts to go. The interior was clean and modern, and although it was quiet when we visited, I imagine the space has a lively buzz in the evenings.

There were takeaway pizza boxes spread across several tables, suggesting they get plenty of collection orders. Even so, the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming.

What We Ordered:

  • Maple Dipped Donut
  • Maple Bacon Donut

Both donuts were excellent. The exterior had a very slight crispness, while the inside was soft, airy and fluffy. The maple glaze was sweet but balanced with a subtle smokiness, and the maple bacon topping was cooked perfectly — adding a savoury layer that elevated the whole experience.

Service & Overall Experience

The waitress was friendly and helpful, offering recommendations and making us feel welcome. Service was quick and efficient.

Price-wise, it worked out at roughly £2.50 per donut, which felt very reasonable for speciality donuts in Toronto.

Final Thoughts:

Harry & Heels Californian Donuts is well worth seeking out if you’re exploring Dundas Street West. With great texture, bold maple flavour and good value pricing, it’s a strong contender in Toronto’s competitive donut scene.

Pros and Cons:

  • Excellent maple flavour with a balance of sweet & smoky✅
  • Good value pricing✅
  • Slightly hidden location❌
