Daily writing prompt
If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

“There are many answers to this question, depending on who you ask.

  • My parents would tell me to stop swearing.
  • My brother would tell me to stop using American terms, such as ‘movie’ rather than ‘film.’
  • My husband would tell me to stop saying the name ‘Shania,’ as I purposely pronounce it as ‘Shan-ya.’

I could get all deep and say the word ‘no,’ emphasizing the importance of a positive mindset and being open to all opportunities.

But for me, I would say the term ‘YOLO.’ It’s dated, nobody sounds cool saying it, yet I still do. At the end of the day, we’re only on this planet for a limited amount of time. Say what you want to say, do what you want to do. Go travelling to South America, wear bright colourful socks for a day, or wear Crocs to a wedding. At the end of the day, do what you want, when you want, because You Only Live Once.”
