In August 2022, we had the chance to visit the Yorkshire Moor region, staying in a holiday cottage for the week, in the middle of nowhere in the Moors just 15mins outside of Whitby. On the first night, we had booked ourselves in for a meal at The Witching Post Inn at Egton. Safe to say, we probably had the best burgers of our life here, and whenever we have burgers, they have to compare to The Witching Post Inn.
Our Review:
“Nestled in the picturesque village of Egton, just outside Whitby, The Witching Post Inn is a hidden gem that offers both a delightful dining experience and charming accommodations. Given its popularity, booking in advance is highly recommended. During our visit, many walk-ins were either turned away or asked to return later due to the high demand. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The owner himself was present, sharing a list of local attractions and even introducing us to his lovely dogs, adding a personal touch to our visit.
The Witching Post Inn also operates as a B&B, making it a convenient spot for both dining and lodging. The menu strikes a perfect balance, offering a variety of choices without being overwhelming. Options include Chicken Parmesan, Whitby Scampi, and Bangers & Mash. However, we all opted for the Witching Post Burger—a double cheese and bacon burger topped with onion rings, served with a side of triple-cooked chips. The chips were particularly memorable, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, thanks to being cooked in a special type of fat.
The interior exudes a humble, homely vibe with a rustic charm, featuring an open fireplace and dark wood furniture. The venue was bustling with tourists, locals, and even dogs, as it served as a start/end point for the Gallon Walk, a local pub crawl. At £15.95, the burger and chips offered excellent value for money, considering the portion size and quality.
