Diving headfirst into Edinburgh’s vibrant culinary scene, our first night at The Boozy Cow set the bar sky-high for the rest of our five-day adventure. As October drew to a close, we indulged in a feast that was nothing short of extraordinary. Each bite was a symphony of flavours—amazing, delicious, and decadently irresistible. By the end of the meal, one question lingered in our minds: ‘When can we come back?’

Our Review:
“Nestled in the New Town of Edinburgh, just north of Waverley Station, The Boozy Cow might be a bit hidden, but it’s well worth the discovery. Descending the steps into the restaurant, we were greeted by exceptionally friendly and attentive staff who set the tone for the evening. Despite our earlier-than-expected arrival at 6pm instead of our 7pm reservation, they were more than accommodating, quickly finding us a cosy spot. The decor inside featured an urban style, with graffiti and murals lining the walls, with neon signs lighting up the joint, for me, I quite liked that style, but I can imagine to others it can look like its catering towards a younger audience.
The tantalizing menu was split into three mouth-watering sections: sharers, fries, and “the main event,” which boasted an array of burgers, hotdogs, and tempting vegan alternatives. We couldn’t resist the allure of the MacDaddy Burger. Imagine two juicy beef patties, smothered in melted cheese and succulent beef brisket, crowned with a crispy mac and cheese hash, and drenched in a luscious, gooey cheese sauce. It was a flavour explosion that left us speechless.
And if that wasn’t indulgent enough, other options like The Meat Feast were calling our names, promising a carnivorous delight with its double beef patties, buttermilk chicken, brisket, and bacon, all topped with a beef gravy-filled Yorkshire pudding. The mere thought of it was enough to make our mouths water.
I was tempted to go for the indulgent Meat Feast, priced at £25, but that’s only for the burger—fries are extra, which is quite unusual for a burger joint. At £3.95 for the cheapest fries, the total would have been nearly £30, a bit steep for my taste.
However, when the MacDaddy Burger arrived, it was a sight to behold. Presented beautifully, with cheese sauce oozing down the sides, it was truly mouth-watering. They even offered an extra syringe of cheese sauce to inject into the burger, though we opted out. The first bite was heavenly—each component perfectly balanced to create a rich, decadent flavour profile. The fries, seasoned with cajun spices, were the perfect crispy complement.
A minor hiccup in the presentation was the shared platter board for both of our meals, which made eating a bit awkward. We had to stretch across the table to avoid spilling food, which slightly detracted from the experience.
Ordering was a breeze with the online system, though traditional bar ordering was also available. We decided to skip dessert here and save our sweet tooth for a neighbouring spot, to be featured in an upcoming blog post. Despite the slightly high prices and the unconventional separate fries charge, The Boozy Cow proved to be a fantastic kick-off to our Edinburgh culinary journey!”
