Our Review:
Nestled on Central Ave on the Kansas side of Kansas City, SLAP (Squeal Like a Pig) is a barbecue haven you won’t want to miss. Established in 2014 by brothers Mike and Joe Pearce, who initially gained fame as a BBQ competition team, SLAP has quickly become a local favorite.
We had the pleasure of visiting SLAP during our stay in April 2023 with friends, and it was an unforgettable experience. The menu offers a mouthwatering array of BBQ delights, from burnt ends, ribs, brisket, and pulled pork to classic sides like potato casserole, cheesy corn, baked beans, and slaw. I indulged in a pulled pork sandwich, a 1/4lb of burnt ends, and some baked beans – every bite was pure deliciousness! Having tasted both “Kansas” and “Missouri” KC BBQs during our trip, I can confidently say both were epic in their own ways.
SLAP isn’t just about great food. They also offer catering services and BBQ classes taught by Joe Pearce himself. The setup is classic BBQ joint style – you walk in, choose your food, pay, and dig in. While there’s a small covered outdoor area for dining, all food is ordered at the kitchen.
If you find yourself in the area craving some top-notch BBQ, SLAP is the place to be. Trust me, it really does slap!

The food is top notch and the presentation is straightforward, no frills, perfect for this joint. The service is efficient and friendly, typical of a walk-in BBQ joint. The prices are justified for the quality of food you are getting.
