The Olive Grove, like The Quays, is a new venture for P&O on the Iona and Arvia ships. Tell you what, it’s worked, because it gets fully booked very quick, to the point that people are logging onto the ship’s WiFi in the terminal and booking tables from there! The Olive Grove specialises in Mediterranean cuisine and is a “freemium” restaurant on the Iona ship; however, on Arvia, it is used as the MDR (main dining room). This means that most of the menu is free, but there are a handful of dishes which incur a charge, no more than a few pounds. We always try and book at least one meal in The Olive Grove as we enjoy it.

On the menu, you can expect dishes such as Lasagna, Carbonara, Lamb Gyros, and a selection of pizzas. We’ve been on Iona 4 times now, and have tried a good part of the menu, everything has tasted good, and the food is well presented.
The ambience of the place gives off a warm, cosy vibe. Low-level lighting, vines draped across the ceilings and plenty of light wood give off Mediterranean vibes. But, we recently found a floor with The Olive Grove, and that is that service has been slow. We haven’t worked out why it has become slow recently, but it has taken a while to receive starters, and then to receive mains. Whereas when we first went to Olive Grove, back when Iona first started sailing, the service was a lot more efficient.
Gourmet Gauge:
The Olive Grove on Iona is a good alternative venue; the food and presentation are nice, but the service can be slow at times, and booking as soon as you arrive is essential.
