On our autumn trip to Edinburgh last year, we found ourselves returning to The Milkman again and again. With its snug charm and seriously good coffee, it quickly became one of the tastiest highlights of our visit.
Unfortunately, we didn’t take any photos from this venue. Apologies.
Our Review:
“As mentioned in the intro, we found ourselves popping into The Milkman many times during our October visit to Edinburgh. Conveniently tucked just around the corner from our hotel and en route to several of the city’s main attractions, it quickly became our go-to pitstop. The café actually has two venues on Cockburn Street – one perched at the top of the hill and the other nestled at the bottom – both equally charming in their own right.
The Milkman specialises in coffee and pastries, and the selection doesn’t disappoint. Whether you’re after a quick espresso, a silky cortado, a velvety flat white, or something more indulgent like a matcha or turmeric latte, there’s plenty to choose from – all customisable with your milk of choice. My husband stuck loyally to his morning latte, declaring it so good that we simply had to keep coming back.
I, on the other hand, made it my mission to sample the baked goods – from buttery croissants to indulgent pains au chocolat and the irresistibly sticky cinnamon swirl. Each one was delicious, but a word of warning: they disappear fast, so if you want first pick, go early!
The cafés themselves are tiny but cosy, with limited seating making them more of a grab-and-go spot. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting – think natural wood, exposed brickwork, and neutral tones that feel perfectly at home on Edinburgh’s cobbled streets. Add to that a team of friendly, easygoing staff who were always happy to help with recommendations, and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect coffee stop. Prices were also refreshingly reasonable for a capital city – averaging around £3 for a drink – which made us love it all the more.
Pros & Cons:
- Fantastic coffees & pastries✅
- Beautiful, cosy interiors✅
- Very fair pricing for the city✅
- Limited seating❌
- Can be very busy❌
Gourmet Gauge:
The Milkman delivers on all fronts – superb coffee, irresistible pastries, and a warm, inviting vibe that perfectly complements Edinburgh’s character. While you might struggle to snag a seat, it’s a spot well worth seeking out for a quick but memorable pick-me-up.

I always try to do a little bit of tidying and cleaning; it helps bring some inner peace to me. I also love to see the changes from before to after, and that gives me a sense of joy as well. Apart from that, I wouldn’t say I have any habits. Plus, here in the UK, “habit” tends to sound like a negative thing; people are always saying “oh X has such a bad habit of doing that”, I’ve never heard anyone say about someone having a “good habit”.
