My American-isms

My American-isms
Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite word?

Growing up, I was infatuated with the United States. I loved everything about their culture, their music, the cars, their sports and of course, their food. Not only that, but there were so many places that I wanted to visit as a youngster. New York City, Miami, Las Vegas —the list can go on. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve added more places I would like to visit, such as Vermont in the fall, Nashville, and Utah & Arizona. But being infatuated with America meant that some of their sayings slowly crept into my vocabulary.

Words like movie, instead of film. Theatre instead of cinema. Soccer, instead of football. Occasionally, it would show in my spellings too. Colour became color. Doughnut very often becomes donut. Meanwhile flavour, became flavor. Out of all of these mannerisms, I think the inner kid in me likes pronouncing “movie” especially with a long oooo sound…so more like “mooooooovieee”.
