Let’s Talk About Leading & Our Favourite Edinburgh Cafe
Daily writing prompt
Do you see yourself as a leader?

It depends on the circumstances. In a normal situation, no, I prefer to stand back, out of the way and let other people lead. But there was one time where I enjoyed being a leader, and that was at one of my previous jobs, working for the supermarket chain, Morrisons. I had been there for nearly over 11+ years when I was offered the role of team leader, and the reason I took it at that specific moment was that the team I was working with was one of my favourite teams during my tenure at the store. Everybody put the effort in, everybody got on with everyone else and helped one another out. Everyone respected me, and everyone knew that I would do my best to make their jobs slightly easier.

Safe to say, on my last day there, I was emotional. The few members who were in on that day gave me a guard of honour as I walked out for the last time. Do I regret leaving? Yes. Would I go back now? No, probably not.

Speaking of leaders, here at The Taste Trekker, we love to review eateries that we visit, and at this moment in time, Edinburgh’s Makars Mash is currently the leader on our Gourmet Gauge chart. Scoring 47 out of a possible 50. Is anyone going to dethrone them this year? The only way we can find out is by reviewing more eateries. So let’s do a quick one now!

Coro: The Chocolate Cafe

Seeing as we were just speaking of Edinburgh, it makes sense to our last eatery from our Edinburgh trip last October…yes, it has taken me nearly a year to finish those from that trip. And to think that we haven’t even properly started the ones from our Pembrokeshire holiday last summer…

Coro: Chocolate Cafe, as you can tell, is a cafe that specialises in chocolate. (surprise!) Think options like hot chocolate (no way!), chocolate cake (really?!) and chocolate brownies (outrageous!). There’s cookie dough, topped with melted chocolate. Pancakes, topped with melted chocolate. Waffles and crepes, topped with melted chocolate. Chocolate, topped with melted chocolate (just kidding!). There is a very small savoury menu, consisting of 5 choices. We specifically chose to come here after going out for the evening for dinner, and dropped in here for our dessert. Also ideal, as we visited the Boozy Cow (currently 31st on our list, as of writing this), which was located next door.

I chose Death by Chocolate Cake, and thankfully, as you can tell from my writing this, I did NOT die, so it kinda makes the title false advertising, but I won’t mark them down for it. It was a chocolate cake, covered in lashings of melted milk, white and dark chocolate. Honestly, I could have eaten two portions. It was THAT good. It was presented nicely as well; in fact, it was the presentation that caught my eye to begin with, as I saw it posted over on Instagram.

The café itself was warm and welcoming, but not as warm and welcoming as the staff. Greeting us with smiles, even at the late time of 8pm…clearly people are hungry for this amount of chocolate at this time, as they do stay open until 10pm! Would we go back, 1000% percent yes. Would I plan a trip to Edinburgh just to die by some chocolate cake again, 1000% yes.
