Running, Walking and 2 Local Eateries Face Off
Daily writing prompt
How often do you walk or run?

Do I run? Absolutely no chance. I’ve done all the running I need to do back in school during P.E. lessons, I don’t think there are any reasons why an adult needs to run. Unless they’re some kind of athlete, a emergency services worker, competing on supermarket sweep, or being chased by a very angry sheep (yes, this actually happened to me!). I do a lot of walking at work, I work in retail so I am always on my feet. I probably do around 12,000+ steps each day at work, whereas on my days off, some of the times it will be as low as 1000+ steps!

Keenthorne’s The Cottage vs Cannington’s Blackmore Farm

We’re going to fly through these couple of reviews as we have so many in the backlog. Firstly, The Cottage, a lovely family ran restaurant in the very small village of Keenthorne in Somerset. They have themed menu nights through the week, such as steak nights and curry nights, and every now and again, on Mondays, they will have a random theme, such as American BBQ or Schnitzel night. We have been a few times now as it is reasonably local to us, and the food has always been very nice. The roast dinner there was incredible, and it is always so beautifully presented.

When it comes down to ambience, the place itself is decorated with a cozy thought throughout, and it seems very popular amongst the locals, with couples and their dogs stopping in for a quick drink. Cyclists also use this place to stop for a light lunch during routes through the Quantocks, and it is also popular amongst the Hinkley Point workers…which is where it loses a couple of points, as sometimes they can be very loud, making it difficult to hear what people on your own table are saying. The service attentive without being too intrusive and the price for the mains are around £15, which is around the normal price you’d expect to pay at homely restaurant.

Gourmet Gauge Scores for The Cottage

Taste: 9/10

Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Value for Money: 8/10
Total: 41/50 Highly Recommended!

Blackmore Farm on the other hand is a lovely little farm shop just outside Cannington, and very close by to another restaurant we have reviewed, The Malt Shovel. Firstly, as you approach, you’ll notice that there is a lot of outdoor seating in old farm sheds and chicken coups. Sounds weird…I know, but it actually works very well. They are decorated with fairy lights, and it’s very cosy when its raining outdoors and its falling against the wooden roofs. Slight downside is the amount of cobwebs, but they do try their best in dusting them. The food is mostly aimed towards breakfast and lunch, so you can expect jacket potatoes, sandwiches, full English and the odd “big meal” such as gammon & eggs etc. The food was very tasty and, once again, was presented very nicely too. The only downside was that our eggs came hard, rather than runny, but the waiter did say that they would do fresh ones if we wanted.

We’ve yet to receive any bad service across our reviews, and again, we had attentive waitresses checking on us. The price was around the £14 mark if I remember correctly, which once again was very good value for money considering how nice the food was, as well as how good the quality was.

Gourmet Gauge Scores for Blackmore Farm

So there we have it, in the local battle it’s Keenthorne’s The Cottage that wins it by 2 narrow points. If you’re in the area, both are worth checking out. We haven’t visited Blackmore Farm for their breakfast yet, so scores may be adjusted after we eventually pop in for breakfast. Once again, we ask if you’re able to give us a follow, we would greatly appreciate it as we are aiming to hit 100 followers by the end of the year. Thank you for taking the time in reading, and if you got this far, leave a comment down below stating when the last time you ran was, I’m genuinely interested.
