Food Review: Café Flora

Last weekend we took a trip to Frome for their independent market, our first time visiting. We checked out plenty of stalls selling all sorts from food, homeware, jewellery and everything else under the sun. However, for lunch we decided not to grab something from one of the stalls, but instead to dive up one of the side streets and grab a bite to eat from a local café, and that was Café Flora.

Our Review:

“Flora Café had a buzz in the year, what with the local Frome Independent Market on, and people wanting a stop from the hustle and bustle to fill up their bellies with some delicious lunch time treats. We timed it perfectly as a table was leaving so quickly grabbed it up and perused the menu. Plenty of yummy sounding options, from toasted sandwiches, small lunch plates such as soup and array of sweet treats. We both went for a toasted sandwich, with a coffee for my husband and a biscoff milkshake for me. (I am becoming a bit of a milkshake fiend these days!

The place had a cosy vibe, although it with the amount of people coming in and out, it didn’t feel that cosy, but I imagine on a calmer day it would be a nice place to chill out with a friend or too and chat over a coffee. The service we had was excellent too, from telling us the sandwich options, to bringing over our food and checking on us to make sure everything was okay, they had it down to the tee, even on a busy day like this.

The food arrived and the sandwiches looked enticing. I went for the brie, chorizo and red pepper toastie, and my husband went for the ham and cheese toastie, both had cheese oozing out from the side, and they were accompanied with a small salad and some crisps.

Going on a tangent now, when a sandwich comes with crisps, why is it everywhere gives you ready salted? If that was me running a café, I’d have a selection ready to go so people can choose their flavour, personally, ready salted is the worst flavour.

Pros & Cons:

  • Great service✅
  • Delicious food and milkshake✅
  • Very busy during market days❌

Gourmet Gauge: Great toasted sandwiches at a good price for the area, the café is cosy and the service given is above and beyond.

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

Back in the day when I was living at my parents, lazy days made me feel well rested, especially when I was getting up at 5.30am every morning. Nowadays, on my days off, if I have a lazy day I feel extremely unproductive, even when I am now getting up at 4.30am. I think the difference is that because I am getting up earlier, even getting up at 6.30am is a 2hr lie in for me, I no longer can stay in bed until 10am like I used to. I have to get up and get going, normally performing the same routine in tidying. Already today by 9am I had tidied the house, cleaned both upstairs bathrooms and hoovered.
