Food Review: Burnt Honey

Yesterday we went on a little trip to The Newt, and beforehand we visited Castle Cary for some breakfast and a little baked goodie. Here’s what we thought of first of 2 venues we visited.

Our Review:

“We visited Burnt Honey first, my husband had actually found this place the morning of our little adventure whilst doom scrolling through Instagram. At first I thought it sounded a little too pricey for my liking this close to payday, but we took the jump and decided to go here. We drove past and saw that it was proper busy, so we expected to be turned away when we got there, but to our luck people were leaving as we were arriving.

The place itself is currently in the process of being updated according to the owner, but it already gave cosy vibes, and they were obviously very much into their coffee, with different kinds of roasts available. We perused the menu, which, I should say, specialises in Australian brunch. I went for the Winter Breakfast, a huge portion of breakfast foods piled on top of sourdough, I’m talking sausage patty, bacon, scrambled eggs, garlic mushrooms, homemade beans, spinach and wilted spring onion. My husband on the other hand went for Honey Baked Eggs, poached eggs, homemade beans, mozzarella and sourdough.

The food was very good, everything paired with everything on the plates, and the presentation was masterful. I always say, that if food is presented to the highest standard, it instantly lifts your appetite, and makes the food even more enjoyable. The service was delightful, with the young waitress chatting to us, and making sure we were all good, helping us choose the right coffee and making sure our order was to our liking. The Winter Breakfast was £16, which is one of the most expensive breakfasts I have had, it featured top quality ingredients, and was great value for money, maybe a £1 or 2 cheaper and it would of been an absolute steal! (BONUS, they had Tim Tams and Caramello Koala’s for sale, Australian chocolate!)”

Pros & Cons:

  • Great service✅
  • Top quality ingredients✅
  • Not a lot of seating ❌

Gourmet Gauge: Great Australian breakfasts, top quality produce, great customer service. Venue was undergoing a transformation, so ambience was slightly lacking.

What major historical events do you remember?

I will keep this short, but I haven’t personally lived through many historical events. The only two I can remember is…the Covid-19 pandemic, lets not look back on that shall we. Seems like years ago, but during that time we lost so many people, and our lives were changed for such a long time.

The other historical event is the new millennium, aka, Y2K. The fear that every body had that the world was going to end all because we were going from 1999 to 2000. How would technology cope, does it know what to do when a new millennium strikes? Turns out the answer was yes, it did know what to do. Nothing happened.
