“During our April 2023 visit to Kansas City, we stumbled upon a hidden gem that took our taste buds on an unforgettable journey: Blackhole Bakery. Nestled in the heart of the city on Troost Avenue, this bakery is a must-visit for anyone craving something extraordinary. Specializing in mochi doughnuts, Blackhole Bakery masterfully blends Japanese and American flavours into irresistible sweet treats.
Our brunch stop at Blackhole Bakery, before heading to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, was a highlight of our trip. The bakery’s rotating menu features flavours like chocolate, mango, caramel corn, pumpkin, and apple cider, ensuring there’s always something new to try. We indulged in two chocolate mochi doughnuts and a vanilla one (though the exact flavour escapes me), while my husband savoured a Birthday Cake Croissant, and I opted for a Chocolate Croissant. Each bite was a revelation, with the pastries baked to perfection and bursting with flavour.
The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Blackhole Bakery are always ready to recommend your next treat, making the experience even more delightful. Now, let’s talk about the Birthday Cake flavour – a concept that’s virtually unheard of in the UK. The idea of something being ‘birthday cake’ flavoured is quite bizarre to us, as the only thing that should taste like birthday cake is, well, a birthday cake! And here’s a controversial take: we found these pastries even more delightful than the famous Danish pastries we enjoyed in Denmark.
Whether you’re a Kansas City local or visiting from out of state, make sure to drop by Blackhole Bakery. But be warned – these out-of-this-world treats sell out fast, so get there early

Great service, similar to what you’ll find across America, and they were well priced within the market, especially for how good they were! Have I mentioned they were amazing?!
