Travel Tips for Visiting Kansas City

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit Kansas City is during late spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October) when the weather is pleasant and outdoor attractions are most enjoyable. Summer can be lively but often hot and humid, when we visited it was nearly 35’c!
Transport in the City:
Kansas City is generally easier to explore by car, as public transport coverage is limited compared to larger US cities. Downtown areas, including attractions around Union Station and the museum districts, are more walkable once you arrive, however they do have a excellent tram service.
How Safe is the City?
Like many major cities, safety varies by neighbourhood. Tourist areas around popular attractions such as museums, stadiums, and the downtown entertainment zones are generally considered visitor-friendly. It’s always wise to stay aware of your surroundings, especially at night.
How Long to Stay?
A 3–5 day trip is ideal for first-time visitors if you want to experience the food scene, breweries, and main attractions without rushing. This allows time to explore both the city centre and nearby spots like Weston, Missouri.
Weather Conditions:
Summer: Hot and humid with temperatures often exceeding 30°C. Stay hydrated if sightseeing outdoors.
Winter: Cold, sometimes windy, with possible snow and icy conditions.
Spring & Autumn: The most comfortable seasons for walking and exploring.
