During our spring 2023 trip to Kansas City, Missouri, we started one memorable morning inside the stunning Union Station. After admiring the grand architecture and historic surroundings, we settled in for breakfast at Harvey’s — a restaurant perfectly positioned within this iconic landmark. From fluffy pancakes and crispy bacon to golden fried chicken drizzled in syrup, this meal set the tone for what would become a food-filled two-week adventure in the city.

Dining Inside Union Station
Located within the iconic Union Station (Kansas City), Harvey’s offers more than just a meal — it’s an experience inside one of the city’s most historic landmarks. Before or after dining, visitors can explore Science City, browse exhibitions, or simply admire the grand architecture that makes Union Station such a standout attraction in Kansas City, Missouri.
Harvey’s sits right in the heart of the station, making it an ideal stop during a morning of sightseeing.
Atmosphere & Setting
Guests can choose between elevated seating with views across the station or dining on the lower floor where the energy of travellers and passing trains creates a lively backdrop. The setting feels both grand and relaxed — a rare combination that adds character to the meal.
What We Ordered
For breakfast, I opted for the Chicken & Waffles — crispy, golden chicken paired with fluffy waffles, drizzled generously with syrup and finished with whipped butter. It struck the perfect balance between sweet and savoury.
My husband chose the Biscuits and Gravy, a comforting dish with peppery sausage gravy poured over soft, pillowy biscuits.
On a return visit at lunchtime, I tried the Conductor’s Chicken Fried Chicken — golden-brown chicken served over creamy mashed potatoes, topped with rich gravy and accompanied by green beans and a buttery biscuit. It was hearty, indulgent, and full of flavour.
Meanwhile, the Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwich proved that sometimes simplicity wins — perfectly melted, crisp on the outside, and deeply satisfying.
Service & Overall Experience
The service at Harvey’s was warm and attentive without feeling overbearing. Staff were friendly, efficient, and made us feel genuinely welcome — something that always elevates a dining experience.
The food was consistently well executed, particularly the chicken dishes, which delivered on both texture and flavour.
