Michelangelo’s: A Slice of Italy by the Sea?

We visited Michelangelo’s, an Italian restaurant in Weston-Super-Mare, a while back for a birthday celebration. It is situated along the seafront, towards the Northern side of town. It has received numerous reviews, boasting a 4.7-star rating based on over 2,000 reviews.

Our Review:
Perched along the sunny seafront of Weston-super-Mare, near the serene Marine Lake, Michelangelo’s exudes glamour with a warm Italian soul. Specialising in classic Italian cuisine, the menu tempts with favourites such as risotto, tiramisu, calzone, and the show-stopping spaghetti allo scoglio.

For my main, I couldn’t resist the Risotto Funghi e Caprino – a luscious mushroom and goat’s cheese risotto. Each spoonful was velvety and indulgent, the earthy aroma of mushrooms weaving beautifully with the tangy creaminess of goat’s cheese. My husband, ever faithful to his favourite, chose the spaghetti carbonara – a rich, silky delight where every strand of pasta was coated in decadent sauce. Presentation was impeccable: pristine plates, artfully arranged dishes, and colours that popped without being overdone.

Dessert was nothing short of theatrical. We both ordered The Dome of Michelangelo – a glossy chocolate bombe concealing vanilla ice cream and honeycomb, brought to life when hot caramel sauce was poured tableside, melting the shell into a river of sweetness. It was a perfect finale, both in flavour and drama.

With a touch of seaside sparkle and chic interior styling, Michelangelo’s manages to feel both glamorous and inviting. The atmosphere that evening buzzed with celebration, yet still felt intimate – ideal for our special occasion.

We were a party of nine for my husband’s birthday, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Including an impromptu rendition of Happy Birthday, every interaction felt warm, genuine, and celebratory.

For the calibre of cooking and the finesse in presentation, the prices were surprisingly modest. This is one of those rare finds where you leave feeling you’ve had more than your money’s worth – in taste, experience, and memory.

Pros & Cons:

  • Exceptional flavours & presentation✅
  • Excellent value for money✅
  • Top-level service✅
  • Limited seafront parking during busy spells❌

What profession do you admire most and why?

Last year, I left retail to try being a baker, something that I did prior as a hobby, so I thought I’d give it a go as a full-time job. However, my passion for baking slowly ebbed away the longer I stayed there, leaving me to my eventual exit (still haven’t properly baked since leaving last July). Not only did I not enjoy what I was doing in the role, but working in a kitchen was not for me. You had to deal with the stresses of having everything ready for store opening, you had the heat of the kitchen, the sheer amount of people in there, all getting in each other’s way. It just wasn’t for me.

Therefore, I admire those of you who can work in a professional kitchen, especially in restaurants, as that would be even more stress and even more heat in there; it would be unbearable for me!
