Pastry Perfection at Sankt Peders Bageri

During our honeymoon in Copenhagen back in 2023, we were on the hunt for all things cosy, sweet, and full of local flavour. My husband’s sister-in-law insisted we stop by Sankt Peders Bageri—a spot famed for its pastries and old-world charm—and we’re so glad we listened.

Our Review:

Tucked away in the heart of Copenhagen, where cobblestone streets wind through a city full of history, lies Sankt Peders Bageri, the oldest bakery in town. On our morning stroll through this charming city, we were in search of a perfect pastry—a must when in Denmark, of course. We suddenly remembered my husband’s sister-in-law had recommended this place, and just like that, we were on our way with Google Maps as our guide.

As we stepped inside, the sight of a wide array of tempting pastries nearly overwhelmed us. But, there was one that caught my eye immediately—a salted caramel and chocolate delight, practically calling my name. And of course, my husband, not wanting to miss out on this indulgence, chose the same. We couldn’t resist!

Presented in a neat card box, the pastry resembled a cinnamon swirl, but with a twist. Instead of the usual cinnamon, it was filled with a rich, smooth chocolate, topped with lashings of decadent salted caramel and crunchy caramel pieces. It was every bit as delicious as it sounded—sweet, salty, and utterly irresistible.

Though the bakery itself is small, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it perfect for a quick stop. With limited seating, it’s best to grab your pastry and coffee to go, taking your treats with you as you explore the city. Just around the corner is a grand church with stunning interiors—perfect for a quick sightseeing stop as you indulge.

The service was friendly and welcoming, and it was nice to know they understood our English—always a bonus when travelling. While the prices are on the higher side (as expected in Copenhagen), the experience and quality of the pastry made it completely worth it.

If you find yourself in Copenhagen, be sure to pencil in a visit to Sankt Peders Bageri—it’s a stop at the city’s oldest bageri that’s truly worth making.
