The Exeter Sandwich That’ll Ruin All Other Sandwiches for You

We’ve recently visited Exeter, one of the nearby cities where we live, for a spot of lunch and shopping. As usual, I was in charge of choosing the eatery, and so I found Between Bread, a sandwich & coffee shop.

Our Review:

“The moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped by the rich, intoxicating aroma of freshly roasted coffee and golden, toasting bread. It was the kind of smell that wraps around you like a warm hug. Behind the counter, a tempting lineup of sandwiches — from Cold Cuts to Fried Bacon & Egg, and a vibrant Avocado, Halloumi & Egg. There was also a modest but appealing selection of pastries and crisps for those wanting a little extra crunch or sweetness.

I couldn’t resist the Fried Bacon & Egg — layered with creamy Emmental and a silky parsley aioli — while my husband went straight for the Avocado, Halloumi & Egg. Within minutes, our sandwiches arrived, piping hot and oozing with promise. As they landed on the table, the aroma hit us again, more intense and mouthwatering than before. We took our first bites — and froze. That moment of eye contact said it all: this wasn’t just good… this was sandwich sorcery.

The bread was toasted to golden perfection, each bite giving a satisfying crunch before melting into the warm, rich fillings. The bacon? Crisp-edged and smoky. The egg? Gloriously runny. And the aioli? Creamy, herby, and utterly essential — not just a filler, but a flavour hero in its own right. Every element had its place, its reason, and together they sang.

Presentation-wise, it hit the mark: neatly wrapped in paper and sliced in half to reveal that picture-perfect cross-section — a thing of true beauty for any sandwich lover. The shop itself had a rustic, cosy charm, with warm wooden tones and a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. The service was genuinely delightful — friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate, both in person and in their engaging presence on social media.”

What change, big or small, would you like your blog to make in the world?

I’d love it if my blog could make just a few people think, “I’ll Google what’s near me for some good food”, rather than just turning up somewhere and popping into the first place, as there can be some dire places out there. The more people who visit good food establishments, the fewer people go to the poorer ones, and hopefully, those establishments improve themselves.

I’d also love it if my foodie/travel blog has pushed you to travel somewhere. We only live once, go out there and explore what the world has to offer!
