As you may of previously read, we have recently got back from a 3 night adventure in Dublin. We crammed a lot of stuff in…and that was just our stomachs! We managed to visit historic sites, take in museums, as well as sampling some local Guinness. We visited different restaurants each evening we were there, and the standout for us was The Bank on College Green.

Review: Firstly, before you even get into the restaurant, you can tell it’s going to be a grand affair from the outside. The restaurant is situated inside a former national bank, and as soon as you walk in your eyes are taken aback. It’s elegant, it’s sophisticated, it’s sensational! There is gold everywhere you look, whether or not its real is another question, but it just makes the place pop. The bar is situated slap bang in the middle of the lower level surrounded by green leather backed chairs. There’s tables all around too, and in the corner of the lower level is a staircase that takes you to the upper level with about 8 tables that overlooks the whole place. Stunning!
The menu is small, but refined, everything is there for a reason. There’s a selection of snacks and starters, then your mains and desserts. For starters we went for the Homemade Sausage Rolls which were the classic Pork Sausage Roll and Pork & Black Pudding Sausage Rolls with a Tomato Dip, as well as a Homemade Seasonal Soup, which I believe was Broccoli on the day. This alone had blown us away already. Elegantly presented, tasted phenomenal. The sweet and slightly spicy tomato dip paired the with the sausage rolls perfectly, and the broccoli soup was deep and flavourful.
Onto the mains! Many different options available, but we both went for the Prime Angus 8oz Beef Burger with Applewood Cheddar, Bacon, Caramelized Red Onion, Baby Gem Lettuce, Tomato all encased in a Brioche Bun, and Homemade Fries. My God, I say this a lot, but it was one of the best burgers we’ve had, and we’ve visited some venues with great burgers! Everything just paired with everything and the fries were crispy and salty, perfect in my eyes!
Of course can’t have food in a restaurant without service, and the service here, as you would probably expect, was sensational. Giving us time to peruse the menus, quick to answer any questions we had, gave us the choice of table and friendly the entire time, easily worth the 10% tip! Regarding value, it is expensive in Dublin, nearly every place we went too was expensive in our eyes, especially when you add in a tip (which isn’t mandatory in Ireland), but we could tell the ingredients was top notch, and the place along was worth the money.

I haven’t met many famous people, in fact the majority of famous people that I have met have been motorsport drivers. I went to Goodwood Festival of Speed a few times many years ago and during those visits I met the following drivers:
– Lewis Hamilton
– Sebastian Vettel
– Nick Heidfeld (got him to sign my cap)
– Daniel Ricciardo
– Felipe Massa
– Mika Hakkinen
– Jason Plato
– Ken Block (RIP to the Gymkhana legend)
