Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you happen to be reading from. We are playing catch up, and we plan on getting the 40 eateries that we are behind by pushed out through January. How are we going to do this you ask? By doing 4 at once, scaled down, and giving a clear and concise review of each eatery. The eateries in question today are:
- It’s A Trap! – Dublin
- Salt in Cake – Alicante
- Santagloria – Alicante
- Xurreria – Barcelona
It’s A Trap – Dublin, Ireland
Review: It’s A Trap is a coffee shop located a few minutes walk outside of the Temple Market area of Dublin, it specialises in coffee & cinnamon rolls. Plenty of flavours of cinnamon rolls available including the likes of the forest fruits cheesecake roll and the biscoff cream cinnamon roll, which is what I plucked for. It was a thicc boy plastered in biscoff cream cheese, topped with a biscoff biscuit itself and drizzed with a biscuit sauce.
Gourmet Gauge: Good tasting and presented cinnamon rolls as well as other baked goods, ambience wasn’t quite there for me, but the service was helpful. £4.70 was slightly on the expensive side, if it was £4, I probably would of accepted it for a premium cinnamon roll.

Salt in Cake, Alicante, Spain
Review: Straight away we go into a battle of the cinnamon rolls, with Salt in Cake being a bakery in Alicante, where I once again decided to go for the infamous sweet roll. This time around the cinnamon roll looked like more a traditional swirl, but made from dough rather than pastry that the swirl is known for. There was less cream cheese, so it wasn’t as sweet as It’s A Trap, but the additional caramel sauce kept some of the sweetness, just the right amount to be honest. The ambience was better in this venue, with exposed brickwork, plants and a chandelier.
Gourmet Gauge: Even better tasting cinnamon rolls, lovely ambience and décor, service was great with recommendations and understanding English and the roll was cheaper than the previous entry.

Santagloria, Alicante, Spain
Review: This is our second time visiting a Santagloria, and we didn’t even realise we had been to one earlier in the year when we visited Seville. This one faired a little bit better, but not much so. We stopped their to get a light snack, and we all went for their Croque Monsieur, which was very good. Was plenty of seating inside and out, and they had a huge array of desserts inside, something that the Seville branch didn’t have.
Gourmet Gauge: Better than the Seville location. Better service and ambience. Food was nice, presentation was as you would expect from a chain, nothing to blow you away.

Xurreria, Barcelona, Spain
Review: This little shop can be found down a narrow classic Barcelona alleyway, serving fresh churros with a choice of dip. We were buzzing to try it, but felt kind of let down by it. The churros were cooked perfectly with a nice crisp to the outside but the chocolate sauce was quite thin, and felt more like a hot chocolate, rather than melted chocolate.
Gourmet Gauge: Good tasting churros, chocolate sauce too thin for my personal preference. Service quite blunt, maybe not used to tourists as it was tucked away. Would try again just to see if it was an off day.
