Flippers, Toronto Review

If there’s one thing Toronto isn’t short of, it’s dessert spots — but few create as much hype as Flippers. Known for their impossibly fluffy Japanese soufflé pancakes, this spot had been sitting firmly on our must-visit list long before we even landed in the city.

Naturally, we had to see if they lived up to the social media buzz… and more importantly, whether they were actually worth the wait.

Dining at Flippers:

We visited Flippers one morning during our Toronto trip, making it our mission to try something different for breakfast each day. As luck would have it, this visit fell on Pancake Day back home in the UK — so really, there was no better place we could’ve been.

From the moment we walked in, we were met with a warm, friendly welcome that instantly set the tone for the experience.

Atmosphere & Setting:

The interior is exactly what you’d hope for — bright, inviting, and completely on-brand. Think pancake-themed prints, playful wall art, and even merch available as you walk in. It’s casual yet stylish, with just enough personality to make it feel like a destination rather than just another breakfast spot.

What We Ordered:

The menu is refreshingly compact — no overthinking here. You know exactly what you’re coming for: pancakes done exceptionally well.

Alongside a small selection of savoury options like burgers, sandwiches, and chicken & waffles, the real stars are the soufflé pancakes.

And honestly? There was no debate.

  • OG Flippers Pancake with Maple Cream + Crispy Bacon (me)
  • Fresh Fruit Pancake with Maple Cream (my husband)

Because if you’re visiting a Japanese pancake spot… you have to go all in.

Service & Overall Experience

The staff were fantastic from start to finish — welcoming, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. They talked us through their signature soufflé pancake style and offered recommendations, which always adds that extra layer to the experience.

It never felt rushed, just relaxed and enjoyable — exactly what you want from a breakfast spot.

Final Thoughts:

THEY. WERE. INCREDIBLE.

And yes, I know I say that a lot… but this time, it came with rare backup — my husband agreed.

These were, without a doubt, the best pancakes we have ever had. Light, airy, and almost bouncy when you cut into them, with a texture that’s completely different from anything you’ll find back home. The maple cream brought the perfect balance of sweetness with a subtle smokiness that just tied everything together.

In fact, we loved it so much… we came back again on our final day. Which probably tells you everything you need to know.

At around 18 CAD (roughly £15 once tax and tip are factored in), the value felt more than fair for something this unique and memorable.

If you’re in Toronto, this is one spot you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

Pros and Cons:

  • Some of the best pancakes you’ll ever try✅
  • Unique soufflé texture you won’t find everywhere✅
  • Limited menu if you’re not in a pancake mood❌
