Toronto’s waterfront is packed with places to eat, drink, and take in the views — especially along the lively quayside area where cafés, bars, and restaurants line the harbourfront. During one of our walks through the area, Pie Bar caught our attention as a casual spot promising comfort food, relaxed vibes, and one thing in particular: pizza.
With a menu built around classic pizzas and easy-going dining, it felt like the perfect place for one final meal before heading to the airport.

Dining at Pie Bar:
Pie Bar ended up being the very last food stop of our Toronto trip.
We were looking for somewhere close to both the Distillery District and our lakeside hotel near Lake Ontario — ideally somewhere easy, relaxed, and with a very low risk of us spilling food all over ourselves before an international flight.
And so, Pie Bar won.
Atmosphere & Setting:
The restaurant itself faces out towards the waterfront, which initially sounded ideal. What we didn’t realise beforehand though was that it’s actually tucked inside a shopping mall.
Not necessarily a dealbreaker — but it did slightly take away from the atmosphere we were expecting.
We also visited at a slightly awkward time, around 3:30pm, meaning the place was almost completely empty aside from us. Combined with the quieter mall surroundings, it created a slightly strange ambience overall.
That said, inside the restaurant itself looked smart and well presented, and you could definitely imagine it having a much livelier atmosphere later into the evening.
What We Ordered:
Keeping things classic felt right for our final Toronto meal.
🍕 Margherita Pizza with Basil
🍕 Pepperoni Pizza
And while the pizzas themselves were excellent, the biggest surprise came from something completely unexpected…
Pizza scissors.
Instead of a traditional pizza wheel cutter, they provided specialised scissors with a flat base designed to slide underneath the pizza slices.
Honestly?
My mind was blown.
I’ve since bought a pair myself.
Service & Overall Experience
Service throughout was really good.
Our waitress was friendly, chatty, and took time to get to know us a little — even sharing stories about Toronto and her experiences visiting the UK. It added a personal touch that made the meal feel far more welcoming despite the quieter atmosphere around us.
Final Thoughts:
The pizza itself was genuinely very good.
Crisp bases, quality toppings, well-balanced flavours — exactly what you want from a reliable pizza spot. In fact, looking back through our Gourmet Gauge leader board, Pie Bar actually ranks as the 4th highest-rated pizza place on our leader board.
Presentation was strong, service was excellent, and pricing felt very fair compared to the rest of Toronto’s food scene.
Really, the only thing holding this place back was the atmosphere during our visit. Arriving mid-afternoon before an evening flight meant we caught it at a very quiet time, and the mall location slightly dulled the waterfront charm we’d originally imagined.
Still, for a relaxed final meal before heading home, Pie Bar did the job very well.
And honestly? The pizza scissors alone made it memorable.
Pros and Cons:
- Friendly, personal service✅
- Surprisingly life-changing pizza scissors 👀✅
- Mall location slightly affects atmosphere❌
