Our Review:

Dining at Succotash:

Located just off Longfellow and within a short 10-minute walk of the National WWI Museum and Memorial, Succotash has been a staple of the Kansas City brunch scene since opening in 2001. During our April 2023 visit from the UK, we made it our go-to breakfast stop before heading to the museum—an ideal pairing for a day of sightseeing and great food.

Atmosphere & Setting:

Succotash delivers a truly unique dining environment, with quirky décor and a mix of styles that give it a creative, laid-back charm. The space feels both welcoming and full of personality, making it stand out from more traditional brunch spots. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, soak in the surroundings, and enjoy a slower-paced start to your day.

What We Ordered:

The menu is packed with classic American breakfast favourites, including breakfast burritos, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, French toast, and even grilled cheese options. On recommendation from friends, we opted for the corned beef hash—a dish that, while no longer on the menu, was a standout during our visit. It featured tender, flavourful corned beef with occasional crispy edges for added texture, topped with two perfectly cooked eggs. It was a simple yet memorable dish that showcased the kitchen’s ability to elevate classic comfort food.

Service & Overall Experience:

Service at Succotash was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout. The staff were genuinely welcoming and even pleasantly surprised to see a couple of British visitors, adding a personal touch to the experience. Prices were also very reasonable—noticeably more affordable than some of the other breakfast spots we visited in Kansas City—making it an excellent choice for both quality and value.

Final Thoughts:

Succotash is a standout Kansas City brunch destination, combining creative flair with comforting, well-executed dishes. Its location near the National WWI Museum and Memorial makes it a perfect pre-visit stop, and its welcoming atmosphere ensures a memorable experience. The only downside? We discovered it late in our trip—otherwise, we would have returned without hesitation.

Pros & Cons:

  • Unique, quirky atmosphere that stands out from typical brunch spots ✅
  • Delicious, well-executed comfort food with creative touches✅
  • Can be easy to miss if not specifically searching for it❌

Gourmet Gauge:
The food is amazing here, especially the Corned Beef Hash and the presentation. The service was charming and the prices were some of the best that we paid for breakfast/brunch.
