Nonni Café, Toronto Review

When it comes to finding a great café in Toronto, sometimes it’s the smaller, more unassuming spots that leave the biggest impression. Nonni Café is one of those places — a cosy, neighbourhood-style café that quietly draws people in with the promise of good coffee, comforting food, and a relaxed atmosphere.

With so many big-name brunch spots across the city, we were keen to see whether this more low-key café could hold its own — and if it might just be one of Toronto’s underrated gems.

Dining at Nonni Café:

We visited Nonni on our second full day in Toronto — and, as usual, this one had been planned well in advance. I’d already mapped out where we’d eat each day before we’d even boarded the flight (occupational hazard at this point 👀).

(Side note: if you ever want a fully customised foodie itinerary, you know where to find me and my Etsy shop)

As we made our way there, the snow started falling — and not just lightly, but properly dumping it down. If Toronto wasn’t already picturesque enough, this somehow took it up another level.

Perfect timing to find somewhere cosy.

Atmosphere & Setting:

We ducked into Nonni and were instantly greeted with a warm, friendly smile — already off to a strong start.

The café itself is beautiful in a very understated way. It feels like a neighbourhood coffee shop that’s somehow been lifted and dropped right into the middle of the city.

The standout feature? The large bay windows.

With the snow falling heavily outside and window seating right by the glass, it created this almost magical atmosphere — like the outside world was part of the café itself. One of those moments where you just sit back and take it all in.

What We Ordered:

The menu strikes a great balance — classic brunch favourites alongside a few more elevated options.

  • Grilled Cheese (with garlic aioli & tomato salsa)
  • Breakfast Croissant (scrambled eggs, crème fraîche & black pepper)

They also offer pastries and a solid drinks selection if you’re just popping in for something lighter.

Service & Overall Experience

Service was excellent throughout.

We were quickly seated, brought menus, and given water for the table straight away — a small touch, but one that always stands out. The team were friendly, attentive, and created a really welcoming environment from the moment we walked in.

Final Thoughts:

The food absolutely delivered.

The grilled cheese was everything you want it to be — crisp on the outside, packed with gooey melted cheese, and elevated with a light sprinkle of parmesan. Paired with the garlic aioli and tomato salsa, it hit that perfect balance of indulgent and fresh.

The breakfast croissant was another standout. Soft, buttery pastry filled with creamy scrambled eggs, crème fraîche, and black pepper — simple, but done exceptionally well. My husband was all in on this one.

Presentation across both dishes was also spot on, served on beautiful plates that added to the overall experience.

Price-wise, it came to around £10 per person after tax and tip — very reasonable, and pretty much what you’d expect from a quality café back in the UK.

All in all, this is exactly the kind of place we look for when travelling — relaxed, welcoming, and delivering great food in a memorable setting.

And when we return to Toronto (because let’s be honest, it’s a when, not an if), this is somewhere we’d happily come back to.

Pros and Cons:

  • Delicious, well-executed brunch dishes✅
  • Cosy, welcoming atmosphere (especially in winter)✅
  • Smaller, low-key spot (may get busy)❌
